CAMERON OSBORN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is to honor our son, Cameron Jeffrey Osborn. The summer before Cameron’s senior year he enlisted in the Air National Guard. The following year he became a 2017 graduate of Wetumka High School. A year later, at the age of 19, he made the decision to enlist into the Air Force full time, unfortunately, days later, he was killed in a motorcycle accident.
Those that knew him, knew he was adopted. Our family has a great testimony of how he came to complete our family.
The criteria for this $500.00 scholarship will be to provide an essay (250 words or less) for Cameron’s family to review to share their experience of foster care/adoption or if they have a family member who currently serves or has served in the military and how that has impacted the applicant’s life.
Condition: The recipient will be awarded the $500.00 scholarship. The check will be made directly to the school upon receipt of enrollment or class schedule.

NSU
January 22 is Native Strong Day
This event is a special recruiting event for Native American Students!
February 1 Honors and PLC scholarships are due
The Honors Scholarship focuses on ACT scores. There are three scholarships offered within this bundle, the first of which is for students with an ACT score of a 28 and a GPA of 3.5. The second of the Honors scholarships is for students with an ACT score of 28 and a GPA of 3.8. The third scholarship offered within the Honors program requires a 30 on the ACT and a 3.5 GPA. These are the highest paying scholarships NSU has to offer. If you have a student who meets these requirements, I am begging them to apply!
The PLC scholarship focuses on leadership skills, community service, involvement, and networking. Students must meet the ACT requirement of 20 and have a GPA of 3.25. These students are usually very well-rounded. They do a lot of networking and are involved on campus. They work hand-in-hand with the university president for many events. I was a scholar in this program so if students need any assistance in this please reach out.
February 13 RiverHawk Jam
This is our Tahlequah college preview day for high school juniors and seniors in the spring. Details for our next event are coming soon. At previous RiverHawk Jam events participants have enjoyed a FREE NSU T-shirt, FREE lunch, FREE passes to the NSU Men's and Women's basketball games, and chances to win scholarships and giveaways. That event may look a little different this year but we are still going to try to make it worth it and FUN!
March 1 Freshmen Scholarship Deadline
These scholarships are requirements based, first come, first served. If a student were to fill out this application it puts them in the running for five scholarships if they meet the requirements.
March 6 Admitted Student Day
This event is a day of celebration! We do this so we can have a day of fun with admitted students to congratulate them on their next steps in life. Last year we referred to this day as "RiverHawk Hype" and hype it was. We had so much fun bringing cool experiences to our incoming students last year and we can't wait to see the new and innovative things we come up with for 2021.

We are excited to announce the Jimmie L Dean Scholarship Foundation is now taking applications for the 2021-2022 academic year through April 15, 2021 at our website www.jimmiedeanfoundation.org
Every year since 2010, we have provided individual scholarships of up to $10,000 per year to outstanding Oklahoma students who attend Oklahoma colleges and Universities. Since our first awards in the 2010-2011 School year we have provided actual funds of almost $1 million.
Our mission is to provide financial assistance to Oklahoma students who will attend Oklahoma colleges and universities that we feel will remain in out great state after graduation and contribute to the Oklahoma economy for many years.
This award does not consider income levels, hardship conditions, or a specific entrance test score (although we do require a minimum 25 ACT score for 4 year colleges and Universities and 17 for OSUIT students). We do take into consideration the test score when trying to project a student's success in their chosen major area of study. We are simply looking for true Oklahomans who may find themselves in the position of not having sufficient funds to attend college but have income levels that preclude them from receiving enough financial assistance to cover their costs of attendance.
Our awards are structured in a manner to fill in the gap between the scholarships and awards already earned by a student and the cost of tuition and academic fees plus room and board charges, with the goal to eliminate or reduce the need for student debt.
The qualities we are looking for are students who are responsible citizens who have worked hard and have achieved good academic standing. We view a student's work history, their expected major, their academic achievement and recommendations from those they have been associated with as a body of work to eventually make our decision as to who will receive an award.
Our application form provides an avenue for a short student essay to allow them to introduce themselves to our foundation. We rely upon this to help select our finalists each year. We encourage you to communicate to prospective students they take this opportunity very seriously. You would be surprised as to how many essays simply state the students need for money or tell us about the other members of their family but really nothing about themselves. In all candor we already know they need money or they would not be applying and telling us about family members is only relevant if it provides insight into the student. We want to know about the student, what jobs they have held, what would make them a good investment for us, and how do they exemplify the qualities of the Foundation.
Our awards are primarily awarded to students who will be pursuing degrees that are science related rather than arts majors. Therefore, some of the majors we will not consider are music, performing arts, English, literature, Psychology, Sociology, Journalism, Business, Pre-law, Political Science, Music, Education or similar majors. In short, we are looking for students who are wanting to make or build things or serve in a health science field.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Senior Essay Contest
The deadline for the Senior Essay Contest is rapidly approaching. All submissions are due by October 31, 2020.
The topic for this years contest is :
The First Amendment provides, in part, that “Congress shall make no law….abridging the freedom of speech.” When the First Amendment was ratified, the ease of access to the Internet and the ability to communicate quickly to millions of people through the Internet could not have been contemplated. While the Internet can empower positive speech and communications for safety and good purposes such as fundraising, weather alerts, scientific discovery, etc., the Internet can also empower negative speech for evil purposes leading to dangerous results such as bullying, hate speech, and terrorism. Should the First Amendment be changed to address speech in the Internet Age? If so, how should it be changed, and why? If not, please explain.
Please visit our website at www.mcfok.org/senior-essay-contest for all rules and to submit your entry.
