Supplemental Application Information
for Fall 2020 Aviation Applicants

Students applying for Fall 2020 entry into the aerospace administration and operations undergraduate degree program with a professional pilot option are required to submit a supplemental application for acceptance into flight training.  Due to the unprecedented student demand within OSU’s professional pilot program and finite training resources, the number of students accepted into the flight training queue is limited to 75 new students to ensure the safety of students, faculty, and staff involved in the training of professional pilots.

Students who apply to OSU with the intended major of aerospace administration and operations: professional pilot option will automatically be granted access to the supplemental application for acceptance into the flight training queue through their OSU application portal.

Students must complete both the OSU admissions application and the professional pilot supplemental application by November 1, 2019. Criteria considered in selection of students for flight training will include high school core GPA, college entrance exam score, an aviation essay response and previous flight experience. Some spaces will be reserved for students with no previous flight experience.

Selected students will be notified before January 1, 2020. Questions about the professional pilot supplemental application process may be directed to the College of Education, Health and Aviation at 405-744-6350 or educate@okstate.edu.

Opportunities for Students to Further
Explore Education and Health Majors

The College of Education, Health and Aviation and the College of Human Sciences are hosting two opportunities for high school juniors and seniors to visit campus and learn more about majors related to their future career interests.

The third annual Education Preview Day will be hosted on Wednesday, October 2, 2019, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.  Students will get to explore more than 10 teacher preparation programs offered at OSU, interacting with the Oklahoma Teachers of the Year, and learn from current OSU education students about their OSU experiences.

The inaugural Health Preview Day will be hosted on Monday, October 7, 2019, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. During this event, students will get to discover diverse majors that lead to careers in healthcare, learn about how to maximize their own health through handy technology apps, and interact with current health majors and hear about their OSU journey.

Both programs are open to high school juniors and seniors.  Lunch and a T-shirt are provided.  Preregistration is required, and each event is limited to 150 students. The registration form will be available soon.

For more details and to make sure you receive the registration link for your students when live, please contact Mason Martin, prospective student coordinator, at 405-744-6350 or mason.t.martin@okstate.edu.

TGS is a highly selective, last-dollar scholarship for outstanding, minority, high school seniors from low-income households. Each year, the scholarship is awarded to 300 of these student leaders, with the intent of helping them realize their maximum potential. Please read the information below to learn about TGS and how to refer students.

About TGS

Gates Scholars receive funding for the full cost of attendance to earn a bachelor’s degree, that is not already covered by other financial aid and the expected family contribution, as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), or the methodology used by a Scholar’s college or university. Costs covered include tuition, fees, books, room and board, and may include additional personal costs.

TGS also provides Scholars with various online support services designed to help them excel in their degree programs, graduate, and make a successful transition to their chosen careers. These include career services, mentoring, leadership development, and knowledge building with an emphasis in personal wellness—physical, emotional, and financial. Gates Scholars will also be connected to a network of accomplished professionals they can tap into for support and advice

Get Your Resumes Ready!

Similar to job resumes, high school student resumes paint an overall picture of the student! Standard college applications leave very little space for a student to highlight every accomplishment or experience, and a student resume is a great tool to bridge that gap. Students can use this opportunity to sell themselves beyond their GPA by listing their academic awards, summer jobs, school activities and volunteer work.

The East Central University Foundation Scholarship Application is now OPEN for the 2019-2020 academic year.
**The deadline is February 1st to be eligible.

Please visit https://www.ecok.edu/donate/ways-give/foundation-scholarship-information for the online application.
**No paper applications will be accepted.

Everyone (except International Students) must complete the FAFSA before filling out scholarship applications.

All students need to check with the department of their chosen major for departmental scholarship opportunities!!!

Going Merry has just launched MerryApps, which allow you to apply for up to 12 scholarships with one application (and each application only has one essay!). There are four different MerryApps:

  • Career Goals (12 scholarships)
  • Overcoming a Challenge (8 scholarships)
  • Community Service (9 scholarships)
  • Social Media (12 scholarships)

You can do just one of them or all four! And it's fine to reuse any essays you've already done on these topics, so think about what you've written so far this year. The first deadline is in 8 days, so there's not much time! You can get started at https://www.goingmerry.com/merry-apps/

It's more than halfway through the fall semester, and we KNOW you have students who are on the hunt for scholarships right now (or at the very least thinking about it). Here are some tips from the National Scholarship Providers Association (NSPA)to help those scholarship seekers find the financial help they need:

  1. Chat it Up. Talk with a high school counselor about available scholarships and upcoming opportunities.
  2. Don’t Wait. Interested in attending a college or university? Don’t wait until you’ve been accepted. Talk to their admissions and financial aid officers about scholarships and other financial help they can offer.
  3. Narrow it Down. Do you know what academic major or career you’d like to pursue? Ask the department head at your college choice(s) if they know of any scholarships for your area of interest. Or, search for professional associations that offer scholarships for your desired field.
  4. Ask for More Help. If you’ve received your financial aid package and you still owe more for your education than you or your family can afford, ask the college about an appeal process.
  5. Work it Out. Enroll in a work study or part-time job to contribute to your education and living expenses. Students who work learn time-management skills and the importance of investing in their own education, contributing to better school performance.
  6. Apply for FAFSA. Fill out the application as soon as you can after it becomes available on Oct. 1. Studies show that, on average, students who apply for financial aid during the first three months of the FAFSA submission period receive twice as much grant money.
  7. Shop Local. While those nation-wide scholarships might look bright and shiny, students generally have better odds of being awarded a local scholarship since they are competing against fewer students.
  8. Apply, Apply, Apply. Apply for as many scholarships as you can.
  9. Don’t Pay. We advise students to never pay for scholarship or financial aid information as these services are often scams.
  10. Check out these additional scholarship resources:

We've included this printable PDF of the above information to distribute to your college-bound students.

Three Application Tips for OCCF Scholarships

  1. Use an UNWEIGHTED GPA. Why? Using an unweighted GPA sets the applicant up for greater success as many of our scholarships target students with unweighted GPAs below 3.8.
  2. Use different references for each letter of recommendation. We also encourage students to ask for letters of recommendation from people who know them well. Strong, well-written letters that speak to a student’s accomplishments and character strengthen a scholarship application.
  • Submit a resume when completing the General Application. Applicants may use this FREE resume template. A resume is an applicant’s opportunity to highlight their accomplishments to the review committee. Don’t hold back! Use these tips to improve that scholarship resume even more!
